The story so far…
Welcome!
I’m Samantha Bryan - creator of fairies and inventor of all the contraptions, clothing, and curious gadgets a fairy might demand in the course of its daily existence.
From hand-stitched leather flight suits and functional flight helmets to essential flight accessories, dust-distribution appliances, and ingenious modes of transport, each piece is made at the bottom of the garden in the fairy workshop, Yorkshire, England, before being released into the wild to take up residence in human homes.
The Story So Far…
Unconfirmed sightings of fairies were first reported at Hereford College of Art in 2001.
Reports began to circulate of a recent graduate who was attempting to invent labour-saving devices for fairies. At first, these claims were dismissed by officials, and the graduate was ridiculed and labelled a loon.
However, sightings steadily increased and were eventually traced to the work of designer maker Samantha Bryan (later known as Brain). Her pioneering approach to improving fairy life saw a sharp rise in fairy appearances. They became frequent and widespread.
Everything changed when an official sighting was confirmed in Islington, London (New Designers 2001). Brain was pulled in for an urgent interview, and a full report detailing the findings was published in 2002.
The article catapulted Brain and her fairies into the spotlight. Suddenly, people were happy to have fairies in their homes… keen even. Fairies travelled far and wide. Brain was re-labelled revolutionary rather than ridiculous — and she was delighted, thrilled… jubilant!
The Name‘Brain’
Samantha Bryan acquired the nickname ‘Brain’ during her time at Hereford College of Art. A particularly curious, elbow-patch-wearing tutor decided it was fitting for a pupil who frequented the metal workshop in a white coat and goggles. The name Brain/Braini/Brainiac stuck fast… and soon, even the fairy flight suits sported elbow patches in its honour.
